Information > Bovine TB
This Badger was under extreme stress from the very moment of its capture. In the confines of the small metal cage it would have rubbed itself until it was raw and bleeding in its desperation to escape.
Those of us who have pets will be familiar with the fear they have when going to the vets in spite of being with a loving family member whom they trust.
Imagine the terror felt by a wild creature such as a Badger. Compound that fear by then being experimented on in a sterile harshly lit laboratory. Never in its entire life would it have been handled, yet in the laboratory it would have been subjected to a barrage of painful injections and experiments. The sights, the sounds, the smells, all totally alien to a creature that has spent its entire life in the wilds living in harmony with the rhythms of the seasons. The Badger would also have missed its kin, Badgers live in family groups and have strong ties with other members.
It is a scientific fact that STRESS contributes to diseases, as does a POOR diet. .Obliviously in a laboratory the Badger would not have been foraging on a natural diet where it could be selective in its nutritious needs. Equally obvious also is that the Badgers stress levels would have been sustained at an intolerable level all through the
MONTHS of experimentation when it was repeatedly injected with bTB
All this so-called research contributed to was a relentless cycle of terror for the Badger, which was perpetrated month after month in the name of science. The finale of which was that the Badgers immune system finally broke down under the onslaught of physical and mental stress, and being repeatedly injected with T.B. All this torturous experiment showed was that under the most bizarre and artificially induced conditions THIS PARTICULAR Badger at this particular stage of its life could be ARTIFICIALLY induced to contract bTB.
Unfortunately this was not an isolated incident; experiments on Badgers have been carried out in laboratories since 1969!
